Claus process (Oxidation of hydrogen sulfide)

Claus process traditionally applied for industrial gases hydrogen sulfide removal at refineries and gas processing plants, formed as a result of hydrotreating and hydrocracking processes of various hydrocarbon fractions. The process enables processing considerable volume of acid gases for elemental sulfur recovery, which is a marketable product and can be transported to the place of consumption.

Claus process involves two stages:
1 stage (thermal) 2H2S + 3 O2 = 2 SO2 + 2 H2O
2 stage (catalytic) 2H2S + SO2 = 3 S + 2 H2O

Applying Claus process for sulfur removal ensures removal efficiency up to 96% for industrial tail gas treatment.

SKTB Katalizator manufactures all types of Claus catalysts including titania-, alumina-based catalysts, support layer catalysts and oxygen scavengers.
